Top 6 Multiplayer Games on Xbox Game Pass

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

Multiplayer, the ability to play videogames with our friends and family is a big reason why it’s so popular today, and Xbox Game Pass makes playing with friends significantly easier due to the fact that if you all have the subscription then that’s pretty much a shared list of games that you would all be guaranteed to have available.

Unfortunately because of the amount of games on Game Pass, it’s not always easy to find the games that you’re able to play with your friends, so for this reason I have compiled a list of the Top 6 Multiplayer Games on Xbox Game Pass. So here we go.

6. Golf with your Friends

Golf with your friends is a ridiculously fun mini golf game that can be played with up to 12 players, both locally and online. I had seen let’s-plays of this particular game during its game preview days and it looked like a lot of fun, and when it finally ended up on the Xbox console on game pass I installed it as soon as it was released, got some friends to do the same and we played through every level.

The reason it belongs on this list at number 6 is because of the amount of players who can join a game, the fact that it’s only 4 GB making it easy to set up, and the fact that it’s really fun. If you’re a fan of party games or just want a quick multiplayer session then this game is for you.

5. Tetris Effect: Connected

Tetris effect is honestly the most relaxing game that I have ever played. I’m sure everyone knows the premise of tetris and for the most part this game has been recreated to death. What makes tetris effect: connected unique however is the fact that visually and audibly the game is stunning and relaxing.

As of 2020 there was the addition of a multiplayer mode where you can play with up to 4

players locally or online. Where the goal is to either work cooperatively against an A.I or to battle head to head to defeat the other player(s). The reason it deserves this spot on the list is because it masters the balance between stress and relaxation, and is perfect for a quick multiplayer session.

4. Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves at launch felt really empty so when I first experienced it it wasn’t that good, however since then a lot of free expansions have been added to the game to make it interesting every time you play, offering up to 4 players online with no local multiplayer. This game is a really fun game to play with friends. The premise is simple, you are a pirate. You sail across the seas with your companions and your goal is basically to treasure hunt and fight your way to pirate booty.

What makes this game unique is that whilst it is a 4 player game, that only applies to your crew, there are several other people online that can join your server and hinder or enhance your experience as you travel through ship battles. All getting together to play some music, or even stealing each other's treasure and selling it off yourself. This game is the best multiplayer pirate game around however the large file size of 61.9 Gb makes it difficult to start a session if a friend doesn’t have it installed and can make that process take a while.

3.No Man’s Sky

No man’s sky had a rocky start at launch, but through many free expansions added to this game, including multiplayer, Crossplay, crafting, and more diversity in your environment. This game has turned into one of the best games on Consoles in general. I’ve spent many nights just exploring space in this game and scanning the local wildlife and just having a blast with this game. The multiplayer is up to 4 players but unfortunately does not offer couch co-op as well.

What makes this game unique and worthy of number 3 on this list is the sheer size of the universe you’re in, with over 18 quintillion planets to explore you are always guaranteed to find something new when you play this game. It also provides a small install size of 12.6 Gb which makes it easy to quickly set up with friends. The only downside I would say this game has is that it’s a bit challenging to get started out in the game, but once you understand the basics, this game is one of the best games you’ll experience.

2. Halo: The Master Chief Collection

You can’t really have a list about multiplayers on Game Pass without mentioning Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and that’s because this collection includes the first 4 Halo games as well as Halo Reach and Halo ODST. This collection can be played with different amounts of players depending on which Halo you decide to play; however they all feature multiplayer and are all of excellent quality.

This game deserves the number 2 spot in the list because this is Xbox’s Flagship Franchise, which includes multiple games in the one collection, and has some of the best gameplay within the First Person Shooter genre. The reason it’s not quite number 1 on this list is because it has a really large file size, making it so you can’t quickly set it up with friends, as well as the fact that it needs a large amount of the Xbox storage space.

1. Minecraft

Minecraft is one of the biggest games in the world, and I've been playing this game for many many years. With friends, by myself, doesn’t matter, the amount of freedom you get in terms of building in this game is incredible and is up to 4 players locally and up to 8 players online. The reason this game deserves the number 1 spot on this list is due to this game being by all accounts, a masterpiece, friendly for all ages, fun to play with friends, only about 700mb so really easy to set up for short and long sessions alike.

And there you have it, those are my top 6 multiplayer games on Xbox Game Pass. Tell us what you think in the comments below and what you would add to the list.
