Sony studio purchase confirmed. Firesprite.

Firesprite games has announced on it's twitter that it has been bought into the Sony Interactive Entertainment family.

The studio has provided VR games for PlayStation in the past, so this purchase makes sense with the impending release of the PSVR2 headset.

In a statemet on their website they have said:

SAN MATEO, Calif., September 8th 2021 – Sony Interactive Entertainment (“SIE”) announced today that SIE has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Firesprite Games, the UK-based videogame studio with a history of developing highly-polished showpieces for cutting-edge hardware. With a partnership spanning more than 8 years and a games portfolio highlighting PlayStation’s technological innovations, Firesprite will play a critical role in strengthening SIE’s exclusive games catalog in genres outside of PlayStation Studios’ core offerings.

Firesprite are also working on a first person shooter set in the Star Citizen universe currently named Theatres of War.

With the huge sales from the PS5 and a doubling down on VR. This might be the gaming generation that makes VR a common place format for gamers.
