News Bit: Microsoft, EA, Activision Blizzard and Epic Games all halt sales in Russia

Four of the largest video game companies have confirmed that they will temporarily halt sales to Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine. The video game industry appears to be joining the rest of the world in condemning Russia's attack on Ukraine.

Microsoft was the first of the group to make the announcement on March 4th in a blog post by company president Brad Smith. He states they have suspended all new sales of Microsoft products and services in Russia including Windows and Xbox.

EA has followed Microsoft by suspending game sales in both Russia and Belarus which has now sent troops into Ukraine alongside Russia. The company states that game and content can no longer be purchased from the Russian storefronts for Origin and EA app. They are also working with partners to stop sales within the region.

Activision Blizzard has also announced that they are suspending all sales of games in Russia while the conflict continues and the company is looking at ways to “support the Ukrainian people”. Activision Blizzard notes that “we stand with the Ukrainian people”.

Epic Games has also answered the call to announce they are ending game sales in Russia in “response to its invasion of Ukraine”. It also states that Epic Games has no intention to block access to any communication tools.
