A new report has emerged claiming that a new Mafia game is currently in early development at Hangar 13. This news has just come after the announcement that studio head, Haden Blackman, was leaving the company. A new report from Kotaku claims that a new game is in production despite the change of leadership.
According to the latest report, the new Mafia game will be a prequel to the existing trilogy. It's being developed in Unreal Engine 5 instead of the Mafia III engine, which was also used for the remastered versions of the originals. Information on the new game is minimal since it's still in early development and hasn't been officially announced.
Hangar 13 studios have had a rough time over the past few years. After shipping Mafia III in 2016, there were two rounds of layoffs, and multiple new IPs have been quietly cancelled since then. It's unknown when 2K Games and Hangar 13 will announce the new Mafia game. Hopefully, we'll be hearing more about it within a few years.
