News Bit: Esports are joining the 2022 Commonwealth Games

It's official! Esports are making an appearance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. This is only a pilot and no medals will be awarded to the winners but the organisers hope it will be successful. If it is successful, the organisers have states they expect esports to be included as a medal event from the 2026 edition.

The esports side will be named the Commonwealth Esport Championships and is being held in partnership with the Global Esports Federation (GEF) While there will be no Commonwealth Games medals for the esports players, the GEF will be providing separate medals for players during the event.

Since this is a pilot event, it will be relatively small and only a small number of games will be featured. The games haven't been announced yet but at least one MOBA such as Dota 2 or League of Legends should be expected.
