News Bit: Epic Games acquires Harmonix to work on Fortnite

Epic Games has announced they've acquired developer Harmonix but not to develop new games for them. Harmonix will be working on Fortnite instead but will still be supporting their existing titles such as Rock Band 4. The developer explains this in their own announcement blog post.

Harmonix has a long record of creating interactive music experiences and games which be translated into Fortnite. Music has already been bringing players together in Fortnite with concerts and events such as the recent Rift Tour concert series with Ariana Grande and Mashmello. Epic Games is looking to expand on this and increase the scale of the music experiences within Fortnite.

There are no specific details yet about how they'll be bringing “musical journeys and gameplay” into Fortnite. According to Epic Games, the company needs the musical expertise of Harmonix to “reimagine how music is experienced, created and distributed”.
